Prayer and Liturgy

At St William’s, prayer and liturgy are an important and much-loved part of our daily school life. Every day, children and staff are given the opportunity to come together in prayer, to speak and listen to God, and to grow in our relationship with Him.

Prayer and liturgy play a central role in the spiritual and moral development of our whole school community. These special times of worship take many different forms – from class and whole school liturgies, to Key Stage Celebrations of the Word, quiet reflection, music, storytelling, meditation, and the sharing of scripture. Each moment is designed to be meaningful, age-appropriate, and rooted in our Catholic faith.

As children progress through school, they are encouraged to take a more active part in preparing and leading prayer and liturgy. This helps them to grow in confidence, deepen their understanding of faith, and share their spirituality with others.

Throughout the year, classes also invite families and friends to join them for “Stay and Pray” sessions. These offer a calm, reflective start to the day and are a lovely way to come together in faith as a school and wider community.

Each class also attends Parish Mass on a rota basis on a Thursday, worshipping alongside parishioners. This helps children to experience the richness of the Word and the Eucharist and to feel part of the wider parish family.

We are truly blessed to have the support of our parish priests, Father Paul Grady and Father Hugh Donleavy, who visit school regularly and help the children understand what it means to belong to the Church.

Throughout the liturgical year, our children take part in special celebrations such as the Stations of the Cross during Lent, our Carol Service at Christmas, and the celebration of Holy Days of Obligation. These moments help our children to experience the richness, beauty, and rhythm of the Catholic faith in action.
